Sorry this is so late....a sistah be busy!!!
Monday January 30, 2006: Attended the Golden Seal sponsored Brown Sugar jump off at the Eden’s Lounge. If you haven't made it to the lounge you are really missing out on something special. The vibe is very nice and the decor is what many of these bougie ass clubs in Bmore were going for, but failed. Plus, its black owned.... NUFF SAID. I had a very good time. The assembled talent gave us all a very good show…a very good show that actually started on time. LOL! I was on CP time for sure…as always LOL! I arrived at the venue as Brown F.I.S.H. was finishing up. Baltimore is such a small place. A sweat soaked familiar face made her way from the main room towards the entrance/main bar area where I was posted up with Kelly Connelly, Ms. Tris, Keebie and P-Funk. I did a double take and realized that she was one of my teachers in college and come to find out.....she is also OOH of B.F.’s mother…LOL! I am not gonna give you any more details cause I ain’t tryna put that man’s biz out there. That was such a welcome surprise. “Mom Dukes” was real cool as hell. She was the one that taught me during my freshman year that “no matter how smart you are…if you don’t come to class your ass will fail.” I got a C or a B in a class that I could have gotten an A. It was Freshman Orientation for goodness sake…LOL! After that….she and I were cool throughout my 5 years at Coppin. Speaking of Brown F.I.S.H......my gurl B. "its so hard 2 b" Fly ( pictured) was in the spot giving away promo copies of her song " Cut N Paste" I love that song. Any woman (or man, for that matter) can relate to her sentiments. Next to hit the stage was jenaba…WOW! I had been hearing about this woman for some time and honestly don’t know how I missed her set so many times. Mama has been doing her thang thizzle for a min. She did not disappoint. The girl can sang!!!! In retrospect, I think I’d seen her picture on past “Ladies Verse” flyers (Big Ups to my fellow Aquarian, Olu Butterfli), but going into the show…I had no idea what to expect. I NEVER expected that much power from her voice. She is not to be slept on. She was all over the map with her musical selections. Even got the crowd in their bussin the happy feet when she lead everyone in a soulful rendition of “Follow Me”!!! If you grew up in the 90's like me....you know that was rockin!!!! Next to hit the stage was the incomparable Ogun!!! He even had a belt with his name on it. LOL! He took it way back on dat azz. I have seen Ogun perform numerous times in the past, but this was by far one of his best. Kariz ("my wild out" partna...LOL) and I acted a fool. If anyone saw a tall chick cutting up.....excuse me! You would think I don't get out much...LOL! The ladies of Golden Seal finised the show out with a real BANG!!! The scene has been missing these ladies for a min so there coming out party had to be something memorable. Unfortunately, so many other people were excited to.....I couldn't get any decent pics of them. Folk was literally huggin the stage. I want to thank the ladies for showing a sistah so much love and I look forward to building with you all in the future. Please check out there site....its under construction, but they have some nice pics on there. Also, if you google them you can find a City Paper article or 2 that written about them a while back. * Peace and Blessing to all the other beautiful people in the place:
