* 50's in the news again!!!! But this time....its for a GREAT THING!!!! * "NEW YORK, NY -- (Market Wire - May 23, 2006) -- 50 Cent was named Songwriter of the Year at the 23rd Annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards celebration held May 22, 2006 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California....." *
".....50 Cent was named Songwriter of the Year for his contributions to five award-winning songs: "Candy Shop," "Disco Inferno," "Hate It Or Love it," "How We Do" and "Just A Lil Bit." This is the second time that 50 Cent has received ASCAP Pop Songwriter of the Year honors. Addressing the audience of songwriters via a video message, the multi-platinum selling artist said: "I want to tell you that I use you for energy. I listen to the material that you create...it helps me move to the next level...it inspires me to write even more exciting material." aahhhhhhhh! * I really need to find out the judging criteria because I thought "Disco Inferno" sucked really bad. I think a lot of songs suck, but alot of the time they eventually grow on me.....NOT "Disco Inferno". * If it was the collection of song and the numbers each did...I get it. This was another great year for him. 50 is one of the only rap acts that actually sells any more. * All that aside......Congrats Fiddy!!! Ciara was another BIG winner!!! * |
I believe the ASCAP awards are like the Billboard awards in that the criteria is based solely on sales, airplay, and commercial success, so quality doesn't really enter into it. "Candy Shop" could be (and is) a terrible song, but all that matters to them is that it went to #1 on the charts.
