    This I know..................
I recently read an article on the importance of black philanthropy. It really got me to thinking about my plan for actually making the dream of giving back to my high school al ma mater, St. Frances Academy, a reality. It was so refreshing to open the paper yesterday to find out that one of Baltimore School for the Arts' most famous alumnae, Jada Pinket-Smith, had donated 1 MILLION DOLLARS!!! Hot damn! Way to set a precedent!!!

One small issue......I hope it will be cleared up soon:

".........the 90-seat theater will bear Pinkett Smith's name and not Tupac Amaru Shakur's, a classmate of hers, as she reportedly asked ( according to several accounts).
    *
I can see why the school might object. But they if no one else should recognize that Tupac was an artist and that his life and death have nothing at all to do with who he was as a man and how many lives he has impacted with his music and poetry. Who knows.....naming the center after him may inspire some "lost" child to persue the arts. I love Jada for doing this. I hope she insists on the buidling being named for him. Jada, please continue to set a wonderful example of how to be a black woman of whom we can all be proud .........and thanks for never forgetting Baltimore.

TRUTH BE TOLD: HER 1 MILLION DOLLAR DONATION WILL END UP EARNING HER 2. YA HAVE TO SPEND IT TO MAKE IT! ...& when you got dough cheese like the Smiths....ya get the drift
    *
Will Smith was honored recently for his accomplishments and for his portrayal of a single father in The Pursuit of Happyness. Jada spoke with so much love for him.....I admire them tremendously.

She said thanks for showing this little fatherless girl from Baltimore about the love of a man.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwh! Where is my Will? Come awn, baby!!

    Ayyyeerrpppp!
Congrats to Mully Man.....It's good to see this guy get some shine.
    *
Show is hip to Baltimore's undiscovered rappers

"After Leyh licensed three of Mullyman's songs for this season -- "Bodymore Soldiers," "That's the Sound (aka Ayyyeerrppp!!! Song)" and "The Life, the Hood, the Street" -- the rapper says he was contacted by three major labels."

I see that Baltimore is starting to register on the Rashad Ollison periphery. That is a major step in the right direction. Still not quite a local hip hop story...........at least he got the facts right (he messed up a lil with the recent BOSSMAN story....I know I'm picky). Next..........I'd love to see the Sun Pop Music Critic at an actual event. If you're reading this R.O. .......12/22/06 @ THE NEW TURNTABLE CLUB "HIP HOP KARAOKE" <------- This will be good fun! Plus....you can meet me. I'll be there paying tribute to the first guy that made it sexy to be fat, black and ashy, Notorious B.I.G.

Hurricane Katrina Play Held Over In New York Before Heading To Baltimore

    OK...this isn't exactly local.... I will admit.............

BUT did you know that Foxy Brown was 31?

I sure didn't wow! These rappers are getting old or are they slowly adjusting the actual age vs industry age over time via publications? She was younger than me once upon a time (No Joke!!!), but now she is older...LOL! my, my funny math is real!!

It didn't matter that Kanye was named Best Hip-Hop artist, he wanted more.

    Source: hip hop dx

So when they annouced the winner for the Best Video category, for which 'Ye was nominated with Touch The Sky, and it wasn't his, he decided to take action.
    *
While the award was being presented to Justice vs Simian for We Are Your Friends, Kanye bumrushed the Copenhagen stage and launched into a tirade.
    *
"If I don't win, the award show loses credibility," Kanye shouted amongst his expletive laced rant. Adding he should have won the award because Touch The Sky "cost a million dollars, Pamela Anderson was in it. I was jumping across canyons."

    *
.....now all of his words are coming back to haunt him. I thought the only back lash would be that more ppl would start calling him gay.....I never anticipated this:

In response to the numerous e-mails I recieved regarding the BOOSIE show....I will tell ya what I know:

I have not talked to the promoter, but I did speak with a security guard and several roving reporters........so PLEASE consider this all TO BE hearsay.......... LIL BOOSIE // WEBBIE did not perform this past Saturday at Sonar. They were in the building, but did not EVER take the stage.
    *
Ebony Elle and I arrived about 11:30 PM (we only wanted to see Skarr for real!!!) and there was a large group of people congregating around the front door. The parking lot was full. The turn out was exceptional. Before gettin in line....we asked security what was the deal....why were so many ppl standing out side...was the show sold out. At the same time police vehicles (including the patty wagon) were pulling up blocking off traffic on Saratoga Street (you could not make a left turn from Gaye). Security informed us that they club was being shut down because 100 ppl had just rushed the door. WTF? EVERYONE looked stressed. Folks with tickets in hand were cussing.....po po was blaring their horns telling ppl to move. The scene was gettin crazy outside....we decided to get out of there ASAP. Folks were calling my name from all directions...LOL! I didn't know anything...LOL! Plus.... I hate when ppl see me before I see them. I feel like I am at such a disadvantage. Time to go! Yes!....I was a lil noid.
    *
Next........we went over to Joe Pizza Squared on North and Howard for a lil music (shout out to Cut Man Lord Kaseem!!! I am so glad to see that the event is not only continuing, but growing by leaps and bounds everytime I come through. The ULTIMATE ladies night, Saturdays at Joe Pizza 3 means 2 for 1 Drinks ALL NIGHT!!! I got in for free and ordered two Tequilla Sunrises and it only set me back $2.60. P.S. I only drank one...gave Kariz the other...LOL! You can't get any better than that!!)

    *
Ebony texted me like 3:00 am talking about a friend of hers told her that a sound man was stabbed...... WTF???
    *
DAYUUUUUUUUUM! After I prayed that he/she was well (I really did!)..............I hoped to God that this didn't reflect badly on Bmore Hip Hop as a whole. <----------- why do I even care about that? More details were needed, but it would have to wait until the a.m. (that and the fact that no one would answer my text messages)

The next evening (Sunday) we went back to the club because Eb needed to get a ticket for the Lupe Fiasco show ( I am soooooo broke yall.....I didn't have any money so I didn't go. I really should be eligible for a press pass by now. I need to work on that! ). We saw the same security guard so we pressed up on him for more details.
    *
No sound man was stabbed thank goodness....he was given his own security detail for the evening (folk kept threatening him when he would turn the music off...WTF is that!?).... just 2 other un named black people (you know they were black because I haven't heard one thing about this show anywhere.....LOL!) That's how much we are desensitized to violence and how commonplace it is in Charm City.
    *
No one OFFICIALLY performed.........I heard some conflicting stories regarding whether Skarr performed or not....I asked him if he performed via text message and his response was "YUP"....LOL! Security says that people basically took over the stage (all the security were called to the front when the crowd rushed in.........WTF?). In his words, "it was a jungle. people were standing on the bars......intimidating the bartenders....it was a mess"
    *
And you wonder why they think we are animals?
    *

One of my many informants (for the purpose of this story...we'll call her X) told me that someone we ALL know......was responsible for banging the final nail in the "show coffin" and was ultimately responsible for the main show being canceled....I won't speak on it cause its not a good look for them. X said that there was some kind of unorganized cypher going on and no one wanted to give up the mic. I can only imagine!!! I feel real bad for the ppl that travelled a great distance to see Lil Boosie and Webbie. These guys have a lot of fans!!! I am not that familiar with these guys, but based on the crowd that awaited their arrival....I am apparently the one that is NOT in the loop.

This show was NOT a good look for Bmore. It was great that we are starting to be considered when acts are touring, but reports of pandemonium will surly deter others from coming and socializing in the future. Why don't more ppl understand that crime is DETRIMENTAL to tourism. Folk need to stop acting a damn fool and wonder why we can't get ahead.
    *
I hope the club learned a valuable lesson.....50 unarmed security guards for 1000 N.W.A.s was not enough (the 20 they had on hand were unfortunately destined for failure). So for real...for real.....they must share in in the blame for what took place.
    *
....I hope that in the future I too can come out and find out about a new up and coming artist without feeling like I might get CUT.

SORRY!!! I don't know how you can get your money back!
I don't know if they are coming back!
I heard folk was paying $80 - 100 to get in - that is so foolish! You almost deserved to lose your money...LOL!

^^^^THIS FOLKS IS THAT BULL SH*T!!!

The saddest part of all this is that there are prolly more ppl that had a BALL that night (chaos and all) than there are ppl that see how this night really set us back a bit!

    What else....what else?

Oh.....I heard the Lupe show was off the hook! I heard that not only is he a great performer, but that he is hella sexy! WOW!
    *
Saw Golden Seal out and about recently ( Hey Jah-Li and Reflect Son)
Jeneba Suma cut her dreds!!! Yup Yup!
    *

Boo Man is the latest recipient of the Jackie Ruth Lanier Award. CONGRATS!!! Shout out to Team Fifty for making this happen!!
    *
Please keep Mr. Ike Carter's family in your prayers. His lil sister was in a near-fatal car accident over the weekend. She is a beautiful young lady who has a long road ahead of her. I am here if you need me, my friend.
    *
HAPPY B-DAY MR. NANCE (Head Nod Entertainment)!!! I wish you many more!!! I'll see you tonight @ the "get together" in Little Italy! I really can't wait!!!

Can't think of any more important tidbits to share.....so I'll check you ghood folks lata!

I'm pretty sure that article is wrong about Foxy's age, everything else I've ever read about her puts her current age at 27 (she was only 16 when she first came out).

      yeah...I remember

      Its just funny to me

I read that Beyonce is really 35....LOL!

I can kinda believe that tho. There is no way that girl is 25, 28 or how ever old they say she is.

Plus i know quite a few local rappers that lie about their ages faithfully...LOL!

Yeah, I dunno, people in show business definitely do lie about their ages sometimes, but I think folks are a little too paranoid about it these days, especially the whole Beyonce thing. She sure as hell looked a lot closer to 16 than 23 or 26 or whatever when Destiny's Child first came out in '97, seems like people are just makin' shit up.

Groups and info call 917 716-6635.

Katrina: A Whole Lotta Water explores the emotional, psychological, human rights, race, class, and gender issues affecting hurricane Katrina survivors. It is hoped that this play will keep them in the spotlight as this human drama continues to unfold in the gulf coast area. The play brings it all home straight to the heart, and that is the hope and intent of its creators.

Tiara a graduate of the Baltimore School for the Arts, was brutally shot twice in 2004 in a domestic violence incident and suffered a spinal cord injury that left her paralyzed from the upper waist down and confined to a wheelchair. One year later in 2005 disaster struck her again in the form of hurricane Katrina and the slow government response to the victims cries for help. She and her family including her 5 year old son were uprooted from their New Orleans community. She was separated from her son and father while she and her mother Cynthia lived in emergency shelters in Baton Rogue where she had to have her wheelchair tied to her arm with a piece of string to keep people from stealing it as she slept.

Emmitt Thrower the disabled New York City retired police officer/writer/producer/director and actor who cast Tiara is himself also a survivor of a brain stem stroke he suffered in 2001. He also experienced being confined to a wheelchair, unable to stand, speak, walk, eat, and eventually lost vision in his left eye. He fortunately was able to overcome his disabilities and create new abilities that have enabled him to work towards becoming totally independent again. He started his Non Profit Production Company Wabi Sabi Productions in 2005 based out of New York City. This is his first performance in a play produced by his company. He felt this was too important for him not to include himself. The songs are written and performed by Harlem based Rap/Activist "Shakka" whose family is from Baton Rogue. The music on three songs “Hell, Wasn’t We Human and Reasons” is produced by Emmitt Thrower.

Sitawi Jahi, the President and CEO of Movements Unlimited Performing Arts Company and the co-producer of the Baltimore show stated "I am saddened by seeing so many people on the streets of New Orleans riding bikes and talking to themselves. They are emotionally scared. It's bad." He said "People are in dire need of help. The horrors of the devastation from Katrina are still there. It is unbelievable. There is a lot of a work to be done for the city to recover. ” Sitawi Kiongozi Jahi the President of Movements Unlimited and his wife Cynthia Jasari Williams-Jahi the Founder are unique in that they themselves are former New Orleans residents and survivors of the hurricane Katrina disaster.
