    Life is gettin interesting.....

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

We are so proud to announce that Super SW is going be broadcasted and podcasted....

A crew from WYPR (NPR)'s THE SIGNAL will be coming and taping Super Style Warz for a radio broadcast. Based on the vision that was described to me...this should be an enriching experience for everyone. They are interested in the art of battling. Did you notice I used the word art? The energy, the competitiveness, the tension, the losses, the victories, ect. It is a beautiful experience to watch unfold when you take the time to look at it from a different perspective. I told the producer that if he wanted to get some people freestyling or giving testimonials about what hip hop means to them...get there early. He told me he would.

This is really a great opportunity for everyone to get some exposure. NPR has such a diverse listenership. I LISTEN TO NPR FAITHFULLY!!! ( Anybody that know's me...knows that I ain't told no lies)

I want to publicly thank Lyrical Leviathan for the connect. You are so vital to the movement many talk about, but aren't selfless enough to enact -- really accomplish the real work ("reach as we climb"...I love the ladies of Seen But Not Heard for that one!). Keep on Slick Vic, Slangston, Lyrical....all of yall are so underrated, but greatly appreciated.

NPR actively supports the growth of Baltimore poets....I feel so honored that they take what we do seriously and think that our story is worth telling as well. So come on out....pitch YOUR story....network and/or compete. You're gonna be on blast for real anyway! Its SUPER STYLE WARZ....for good ness sake!!!

Its always funny when I find out people are watching me....this was a pleasant surprise tho. Anybody else out there watching ole gurl???? LOL! Speak up dammit!!!

    92 Q wants YOUR opinion

Last night I heard a new ad being run on 92Q jams, “….Bmore…. We want to Be More…” I am paraphrasing so please do not e-mail me with the correct wording. They are asking the Q-mmunity to give them feedback. They want to know what things you like and dislike about the station. They are asking for suggestions for future programming, on-air personalities, etc. All away around- I think this is a great opportunity. I am not gonna hold back!!!! I plan to send an e-mail a day. Think job interview: Ask for more than you actually need.

Now- I know some of you may think, “This is bullshit. They just want to get their website hits up” or “They’ve been calling themselves the voice of the community forever…so what is gonna be different now?” Difference: We are being given a tool that could be used to fix what we view as a problem [i.e. 1 or 2 Baltimore artists is semi-rotation, phoniness many say ppl at the station display, them playing that damn new DL4 song. That sh*t is so terrible, etc]

I plan to combine ideas I’ve been kicking around in my mind with things I’ve found on the net while searching for radio stations out of the area. I will share them with you and I ask that if you think they are any good, please add them to your letter as well—and vice versa. I think that if more people are asking for the same thing, it will have a greater impact. This approach has added value because we all know it’s about dollars and cents at the end of the day and we have none. It don’t cost nothing to send an e-mail if you already spend all day sending out spam. The more people saying, “This [insert the action] will give me more confidence in the messages my local station puts out in the universe” ….the more WE will be viewed as potential listeners. FYI: No one values our age group’s opinion generally [we don’t contribute significantly to the tax base, we don’t vote, etc], but this 1 small action may prove to be so pivotal to all of our success stories. I think a concrete example of benefits derived from collective work will be so instrumental in creating the sense of connectedness that is sadly missing from the Baltimore scene [community overall- but that is another conversation]. I am going to at least make the effort [at least for a month] and I am going to get all of my friends to do this as well- join the train.

E-mails are to be sent via a form on the website. http://www.92qjams.com/contactus.asp

    Suggestions:
    1. “Home Town Hero” song every night.
    2. “Local Love” section on the website.
    3. Presence of the Rap Attack Show at Local Underground shows…not just the people that come into town and roll out after they perform.
    4. Guest appearances for local artists. In studio or ……it could be a 3 min pre-recorded interview that is played on air. It could be slick. Chopped up with their music in the background with them maybe answering one or 2 questions. Think NPR pod casts.
    5. If you can’t play the music at least put the name out there.
    6. Please add on…..
    *
Why should they take any of these suggestions? That is an interesting question….but I think that if we at least make a concerted effort... maybe hip hop will not be viewed as the passing fad in Baltimore.

I heard XO was the smoothest

There is a new guy around town poppin up on all the hottest mixtapes. XO's the name .......and like his namesake, (depending on your experiences) he will knock you off your feet if you are not ready for him. He packs a real whallop! LOL! I remember first hearing his scratchy, yet veeeeeeery distinctive voice on the Architects Street Radio Vol I mixtape (Vol III Coming Soon), but it wasn't until recently that I really l-i-s-t-e-n-e-d to his music. He has this song called "In Memory of" that really impressed me. He delivers some pretty memorable lines like:
    *
    Chicks forever scheme,
I wear rubbers when I sleep
cause I don't trust the bitches in my dreams
    *
Ima hustler so I got to
    let you know, money...
    slow money
    better than no money
    *
The track's a scary MONSTER! Big Ups to the producer and to Mike Mac (ARS) on the mix. The beep beep beep....was hot! Ima warn ya, the song is laden with catchy punchlines. Some people love that style. Im usually not impressed with that... but some of his-- particularly that last one ["money"] --were hot to me. Not because of what he said....more the way he said it. He has a real way with words. That is one of the things that make him worth your time <<<< THAT IS MY NEW WAY OF RATING MCs...LOL! Yeah...he can be kinda "ignorant", but I am not one to call something trash simply because it made me blush. Poetic license is something that I value and respect. I think he is an extremely talented artist....so check um out on
MYSPACE and decide for yourself. I talked about his show out at Sonoma's a while back. His live set was hot too. Please don't make the mistake of sleeping on him....you don't want to be called a bandwagonner later. Is bandwaggoner a word?
    *
I sure did....I CAN ADMIT IT!!!!.....only for a minute tho. If you are looking for the next Busta.....look elsewhere. He is not the super explosive MC on the mic....he's rather straight-forward with his intent and his flow is very laid back. He will mos def give you something to nod your head to if you can relate to his reasoning. 4 real for real....it's hard believing he is a rapper without seeing or hearing him do it. It's just that he's so quiet whenever I see him out. L7.....that is all I will say ..LOL! But that's the part that's really gangsta about him!
    *
I hope no one ever writes a song about me like "Damn MA"
    Damn DA!

    Bornified King
I want to send a shout out to my big homie, Born King!! He (or maybe it was his manager) gave me a promo copy of his new 3 song sampler entitled, "Bornified King" at his recent performance at the SONOMA'S BAR & GRILLE. I had a hard time deciding which was my favorite cut on there. It was close .....almost a tie btw "Blue lights" and "Gotta Be a Betta Way" with "Blue Lights" coming out on top only b/c i especially liked the way you road the beat. Plus the ish you was spittin was REAL to me. This blue light business is out of control....THEY ARE WATCHING US all the time. You and I have shared some convos that lead me to believe that you on are on some "nuva" level stuff...... so keep on talkin to the people. It's needed badly. This is a song that I'd add to a mixtape of mine-real meaningful. "Gotta Be a Betta Way" is a great motivational song. Its sounds like you had a lot of fun recording it. Don't let me find out you have a bit of a singing voice on you as well. While I enjoyed the wild abandon you displayed when you performed that rousing rendition of "F*ck That Shiiiiiiiiid" at Sonoma's...it TRULY (IMO) does not show the range you possess as an artist. "Rose Mary's Baby" is just plain scary...LOL! You have an interesting imagination. One thing DNA and I both commented on....YOU KNOW HOW TO GET LIVE. I lost a few pounds rockin wit cha. Nick Soprano [as hype man] was a great compliment to your performance. I look forward to big things from you in the future. Keep a sistah posted!!!
    *
I decided to post both of my favorites from the Sampler. You can also get a free CD from Bosslady by visiting her site....I'ma let the people decide what they think is the best!!! Be sure to hit Born King up on his myspace page if you feelin his music......hit him up if you NOT feelin it too!!! ....Be sure you just hit him up.....thank you...ok!

For those of you that are always asking me about shows.....THIS IS A PLACE THAT BOOKS TALENT!!! http://www.sonomasbar.com/ Its located at 7284 CRADLEROCK WAY, COLUMBIA, MD. 21045 Go get some of that suburban LOVE
    *
You will need to hollar at J OPTIMO NOT Sonoma's. He is the promoter & host. I don't have his number so you will need to add "make a trip out to Columbia" to your agenda. You will need to go there and talk to J for yourself. Please note: I am not sure if its every Tuesday...but I know its twice a month....I know that for sure. Next show...I'll let you know. I just gave you another reason to check this blog often....LOL! Make sure you have a demo to give to him.

    Are you a "RYDER GIRL"?

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

D.O.G. recently added some new music to his myspace page. The request lines have been going CRAZYfor the remix of the "Rhyder Girl" K-Swift/Black Star club track. For my readers that are outside the area: this song is an example of "Baltimore club". It is its own genre of music....like go-go in DC. Hate it or love it...in moderation (key word...LOL!)...it's damn good!
    *
The wait for the much anticipated Champagne Dreams album is almost over. Mo Banks [Producer/Engineer] is putting the finishing touches on what promises to be the "ONE". I am very excited. Ever since hearing "Hello" while driving to DC this summer....I have been curious as to what D.O.G. was going to bring to the table. His prequal mixtape did not dissapoint me. Several tracks slated to be one the album ( including "I Get Dough" f/ Jim Jones) have been finding their way on local mixtapes. I have the "Big Business" joint rockin on my myspace page, as a matter of fact. I wrote an article about D.O.G. for STREETZ mag....not sure when its gonna run, but...when it does...ill put you on notice. If you are feeling the music on his....mine or anyone else's (for that matter) myspace page...let em know!!! Feedback is a very necessary component of the growth process!
    *
Ironic thing.....2006 is the year of the dog in Chinese Astrology....crazy coincidence or destiny??? You be the judge!

    D.O.G.'s "Champagne Dreams" coming soon.

    Ab Rock + J.S.O.U.L. = The J Rock Project
    NEW HEAT
What happens when 2 of Baltimore's most soulful artists get together to create a few songs?
    "MAGIC"
    The J Rock Project Mixtape/EP
This classic is 7 tracks that are sure to have you rockin.
["like kids with helmets" as Lyrical Leviathan would put it..LOL! I know I'm wrong]
The beautiful thing about the CD is that you can feel safe giving it to anyone......YES! from babies to grandma...
    I love track # 2 "J Rock Theme"
Not only because it reminds me of one of my favorite Ericka Badu rifs...."Ya yo...ya e oooooo", but also because they kilt it LIVE @ Organic Soul last week!!! The bongos [I think those were bongos] on this track are crazy!
Its all about J Soul #3 "I remember"
The production on this CD is really top notch. This track is mature Hip Hop at its best. I love my thug anthems, but from time to time I also love poetry over a soulful track. This guy is amazing!!! Please cop his CD. I believe he is on CD Baby. It's worth the money.
The jewel of the CD. #5 " The Hood"
Perfect beat selection for the story.
#6 "She Said" f/ Rebeccas Dupas......I could go on and on....I love this CD people!!! CAN YOU TELL????
Ab Rock will be competing in this month's STYLE WARZ. He was our very first champ! This dude is not to be slept on- freestyling, written or artistically (he is a graphic designer by trade). J Soul has such a beautiful voice. Its amazing that someone hasn't snatched him up. The synergy between these two is amazing and I hope they continue to work together on future projects. The syle is very representative of the other Baltimore music scene. I focus a lot on the rap side of things, but there is an equally engaging...more soulful mature music scene that exists here as well. Big Ups to the crew at Melodic Confessions (Edens Lounge on Wednesdays...I think....I'll follow up if otherwise), Organic Soul (Saratoga Street- MD Art Place on Tuesdays) and Spoken Word Revolution (Sylvan Beach Cafe - Preston and Charles Sts). Can't be everywhere, but I try....lemme know if you have events coming up...I'd love to come through. I f there are any artists that interest you...lemme know ab0ut them as well...I'll look um up! I have love for it ALL!
I have to tell yall about the STREET DREAMS DVD I got from Ahk @ Strictly Hip Hop (88.9 FM Friday 12-5 AM)....next time tho...LOL!

    Soul Sonic @ SONAR 2/4/06

Raheem Davaugh hosted the SoulSonic festival (I'm calling it that cause there was like 50 ppl on the card...LOL!) held last night at the Sonar Lounge. I had a very good time. Big Ups to Crooked Streetz (Booman, jimmy jones & Pop) and Ankh Ba Records (Labtekwon) for organizing a VERY abstract show. Fans of avante garde hip hop will LUUUUUUUUV Labtekwon (one of the night's headliners). Check out his website for a sample of the "aesthetic" & pleeeeeeeaaaasssseeee... Lemme know what you think. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Lab when he judged a Style Warz during the summer. His reputation precedes him.....It's ALL true*true*true*!!! To say "He likes the ladies" is a major understatement. He is definitely a Flirt (with a capitol F)....Skirtchaser...p*ssy hound...etc. He plays the odds by throwing his line waaaaaaaaaay back behind his shoulder before sinking it deep in the river of potential concubines ...something is bound to bite...LOL!!! I knoooooooow you saw that weird ass video they were running on BET uncut for the entire summer. But hey, that's part of his charm. He likes us thick chicks too....at least he has taste!!! "Bmore's Kool Keith", (& I mean that with the utmost respect) I think you are the most original dude!!! Pleeease don't let the weird glasses, off key & beat singing, crazy mangled hair or the flambouyant gold toof -N- chain wearing, Louie V bucketbag carrying, male side kick throw you off.... He def got some street ish for ya...that's if you can get past the chanting and calls for the mothership to ascend on the audience....Can you tell I don't really know how to sum him up?...LOL! in many ways....that is such a great thing!!! D-i-v-e-r-s-i-t-y is a BEAUTIFUL thing!!! Dude is definitely himself!!!! ............ALL DAY LONG!

Why does my face look all twisted up like dat???...LOL! Raheem looks so calm, cool and collected. I really need to practice my "hollywood" smile a lil more. I hate this pic, but I adore "Mr. Love Experience". I actually got a lil nervous (WOW! That seldom happens) I will get another pic .....& will wear a stunning smile next time.
    I love his album!
