    T.G.I.F. - A day in the life...

Today I was interviewed on WYPR as part of a documentary they are doing on Style Warz that will air on Friday March 24th @ 12 noon (88.1 FM Baltimore) This was my first time being recorded so I was a little nervous. Mr. Aaron Henkin (senior producer/interviewer) was very nice and asked very thought provoking questions. He really put me on the spot several times, but I think all-in-all I got my point and underlying motivations across. I even got my shout outs in there....PLEASE do not be angry at me if you don't hear your name...LOL!

I am very excited about this documentary because I love NPR sooooo much! I listen to them all day @ work. The Signal always highlights dynamic and interesting people (I want to say Baltimoreans, but I am not 100% sure- seems like it)...so this was really a BIG deal to me. My stomach was hurting all day...I know it was nervousness. Its ova now - THANK GOODNESS!

Malcom of CMG accompanied me to the station and took the picture above. Gee, Mal (dot) com...do you think you could have got old gurl from a better angle? Its all good! I was dere...yall see the ear phones and microphone....I am happy that I was able to capture the memory. He is helping me to put together a documentary of my travails. A person can tell you what something is like, but until you see it for yourself....you won't really get it. I griiiiiiiind! If you have any audio visual or editing needs or if you participated in Super Style Warz and would like your video footage, please contact CMG.

Heading to the showcase @ the 5 Seasons tonight.....I think? I'll holla back LATA!

    ABCs of Me
What's good? Been chilling the last few days...haven't been to any shows this week. I really needed to take sometime and get my mind right. I'll be back to my usual antics in a few.
    *
Some one told me I was well on my way to becoming "Miss" Courtney. I was asked if that is what I wanted? LOL! Can I help it that I command respect? I feel so funny introducing myself as C. Love...LOL! Maybe I need to work on that...I simply CAN'T under noooooooo uncertain terms be seen as a grown asss woman. WOW! I guess I do call the younger guys "Baby" alot. Not in the sexy, "Baaaaab -bE" kinda way either! I SOUND LIKE MY MOTHER -- OH NOOOOOOOO!!!!! LOL! More specifically...I was told that some of the pictures I take make me look motherly [EJ & I at Style Warz - I heard about your comments ARS]...LOL! OLD is how I interpretted that! So Now....I'm a 20-something M.I.L.F. How did I get here? Am I too conservative for hip hop - is that even possible? What is Hip Hop? I thought I knew? I know hip hop is all about rebellion [buck! buck! on the system]....so why can't it be that MY form of rebellion is to be the one that looks like she is at the events to actually work? Hummmmhhhhnn??? LOL! Its all good doh.....I'm comfortable in my button up shirts and pearls......as with everything else people want to label me as....I'LL BE DAAAAAAAT!

I was asked to judge the Madame of Murdaland Female MC Battle [part 2] coming up at the 5 Seasons on Monday, March 27, 2006. This should be very exciting. I've never done the whole judging thing....so if you don't hear from me on the 28th....go and hunt down Sonny Brown or Mr. Wilson. They will at least be able to tell you who I got to beefin with. The last "M of M" competition [re] introduced Ms. Stress to the Baltimore Hip Hop scene. Several weeks of on air battles between Stress and other females finally resulted in *Ms. Stress and Symph of the Plague* having to duke it out at the finals [held @ the Black Door]. Stress came out the winner and will defend her title on the 27th. *(This battle is available on the Street Dreams DVD. Please holla@ Ahk on Fridays btw 12:00 - 5:00 AM 410-319-8888)*

D.O.G. is gearing up for the release of his debut album, CHAMPAGNE DREAMS. I am not at liberty to divulge specifics, but STAY TUNED......... They are gonna do it real BIG. I was invited to a private listening party the other night and man o man - THIS CD is gonna really make people stop and take notice of Baltimore. So much of Baltimore Hip Hop is a lot of BOOM BOOM BOOM (808)...sometimes too much base (for my tastes)...overly simple two-step rhythm....coupled with dumb ass hooks and glorification of violence and drugs....no real substance [a good majority of it]. This dude has guitars & strings and freakin' harps in his music...LOL! He even has something for the ladies. It's obvious he recognizes who actually wears the music buying pants round hurr. Im trippin, but dead ass! LOL! It's still very street...don't get me wrong, but you can most definitely tell that real musicians had a hand in crafting his sound. Heard a track with nothing but strings and freaked it on some gansta ish. The track with Raheem Davaughn is amazing. I finally got to hear it. They've been acting so top secret.

While there we really got into a heated discussion about the popularity of the "RYDA GYRL" song. I never saw this one coming, but like Pop told me early on, "This ain't for you"...LOL! [I admit I was wrong, but then that is why you are the boss] Its the #1 requested song on the radio right now - Did you know that? I was messing with D.O.G. about the part in the song when he says something about, "putting his boat in her ocean"...LOL! That line is hilarious! Its so silly, cute...yet so very sexy at the same time. I wish I could find me a boat right about now...LOL! "Boat" just makes my imagination run wild. The man does have a way with words. Mo Banks added his lil special touches to it radio version of the song..."grind me, grind me, gr, gr, gr, grind me baby!" I love it!! Check out D.O.G.s MYSPACE page if you haven't heard the song already. Big ups to Mo Banks for actually fusing club with hip hop in a way that both pays tribute [or should I say recognizes] our home grown sound, but that also showcases how a RAPPER should spit over a club track. There is a difference. Need clarification on that- holla @ me. I think that its wack (edit: ill advised) for a rapper to make a "Baltimore club" song. Like Karlito (from the Kartel) pointed out, [im paraphrasing] "Are we trying to take club music global or are we trying to put Baltimore Hip Hop on the map?" Plus, the song's vocals can stand on their own without the Blaq Starr track. I'm not gonna lie....the track was already hot....yall just [in the words of my fave chef, Emiril Agassi] KICKED IT UP A NOTCH! BAM!
    *
Its so nice to be in the loop.....I can't wait for the REMIX! REMIX! REMIX! It's gonna mess some heads up!!!!

Is it me who has the problem?

    How Your Attitude Ranks

Your Attitude is Better than 65% of the Population

    If you scored...

80-100: You've got a winner attitude. You're always optimistic and cheery. Your personality will get you far in life.

60-79: You have a good attitude. While a realist, you do see the positive side of most things. People love to be around you.

40 - 59: You have a positive attitude... somtimes. You prefer to see the world through clear glasses, not rose colored ones.

20 - 39: You have an average attitude. You take the good and bad in life as they come. Though sometimes you could use a little more good.

0-19: You have a negative attitude. You tend to see the dark side of every situation. Free ice cream? No thanks, it will just make you fat!

We all need a lil reassurance from time to time!

Shakeen "The Analyst" (Bulldog Kartel Recordings) is ALIVE
I spoke with a represenative from his team this evening and this is another case of a tasteless RUMOR making its way on the internet. Message to the people that started this nonsense: Please get a life! In the future, when any of you wish to change your names....do not post on message boards or send out mass e-mails saying R.I.P. to "XYZ". Its been done so much....that it's becoming corny. Baltimore is a very jacked up place and a member of our hip hop community being killed is a real possibility. I hope to never experience this - for real! Also, I want to add....I do not think this was any kind of publicity stunt. Knowing Sha (like I know him)...this is not the kind of games he would play.
    *
On friday I put up my 26 bucks (& yes, I'm still fussing!) and went to the Juvenile concert. Hammerjacks has a reputation in Baltimore that always makes me think twice before attending any event there. Not sure which one is worse - the rude way that the butch security guards feel you up... I mean frisk you.... before entering or the way they scream "step down" or "$40" or when they bark "whats this?" while using an open ink pen to shift the contents of your pocketbook around or the way that they make you feel like you are visiting someone in prison (anyone that has ever visited a jail understands me)- "NEXT!" - No Hello - No Smile- "who you here to see?" - they treat you like you aren't helping to pay their salaries - Make you want to scream out, "I am not a prisoner. I'm a tax payer" LOL! - no customer service skills & no repercussions for not having any. Needless to say, getting in the club is not a battle I am often willing to fight.
    *
Hammerjacks will never have the charm it once possesed (IMO). It could be that I am getting older or because I have a frame of reference (Baltimore Sundays - Druid Hill Park aka "The Park" then to Riesterstown & Cold Spring Mc Donald's aka "The Lot" then on to HAMMERJACKS aka Hammers), but I experienced some good times @ that spot. FRANK SKI was the man when I was coming up and there ain't NO party like a Hammerjack's party when it was on Hamburg Street (location of the new Ravens Stadium parking lot).
    *
Although it wasn't very crowded (this is relative - the spot holds 2500 and there were maybe 1000 attendees), I enjoyed myself alot. There was just so much going on in the city this weekend -- 92Q had a ski trip (if I am not mistaken), Frank Ski was having a jump off at Club One...everyone was getting their mind right for the All Female Review, etc. Got hit on by an attractive female bartender all night...LOL! Im not sure why, but I found it quite flattering. Saw my old boyfriend with who I can only assume was his new girlfriend....didn't speak, but felt oddly happy for him. But I wouldn't be a real chick If I sat here and said I didn't disect every single inch of his new chick (FROM her black yacky perm straight tracks to her sling back shoes). I mean, THAT is who I made him BETTER for.... ladies, I know you feel me. Aaaaaaand the verdict is....she has NATHAN on me. Jeah! Ran into my ghood ghood friend from the hood, Mr. Zeke Marshall. I hadn't seen him in a min and its always LIVE whenever we connect. This brother has so much on the ball....he is a realtor, a mentor to the youth, Ivy League graduate, former pro ball player - DAAAAAAAAMN! my homie is a real catch. LOL! Too bad...I know he is a nut already! Love em to death...as long as I don't know all his biz. He has been holding the Outstanding Athletes Basketball Camp at the St Paul School, Park School and Arlington Baptist Academy for the last few years. The hugely successful sports/leadership building camp gives Zeke the opportunity to share some of the wisdom he has acquired over the years (being an inner city youth, attending the prestigious Cornell University and later going on to play professional sports over seas) as well as introduce the kids to some of his professional athlete friends (& the guy gets love from them all). Ask about him! I just had to shout out my peoples! Plus, he made sure I was comfy up in V.I.P.
    *
I really have to tip my hat to Tracye (IKON Entertainment)....her concert concepts are very hot. Dancers, runways, models, fashion shows, VIP...... you can almost forget the fact that it's actually a rap concert she is giving. She is proving that Hip Hop fans do appreciate nice ish! If I go to one more show that feels like I should have worn my timberland boots I am going to hurt something. Thank You Tracye for having vision.
    *
I'd recently interviewed her for an article I wrote for STREETZ magazine and found her to not only be a beautiful person, but also very articulate, thoughtful and driven. She is shooting a pilot for her new reality TV show tentively titled, "The Promoter". I can't wait!!! I sure hope they got footage of the concert because I have no doubt that her preparation (for the show), reactions (after arriving at the venue) and frustration (as the night progressed) will make for great TV. As a promoter ....I know the stress invloved in giving events and the possibility of losing money, but the reality of the game is that - there are GREAT days and there are unfortunatley BAD. For every awesome turnout & payout$$ (Chi Ching!)....please believe you got a dud coming. I think if more people can see what is actually involved in producing a quality event.....they'd develop a new respect for the profession/hustle. I saw Tracye several times through out the night and I loved the way that she took the time to make everyone feel important. I could tell she was stressed out, but she asked me if I was good. That was real classy in my opinion. A true professional....if you didn't know already, Tracye Stafford is that woman. The NEXT IKON Concerts include....Keysha Cole (hosted by the model, Hoops) followed by Beenie Segal and Freeway. I will follow up with the dates and visuals.
    *
I wouldn't be me if I didn't mention the food...LOL! They had this rice with sausage and shrimp in it that was to die for. It was soooo good...I NEED that recipe.
    *
    *
The crowd on this night was great!!! Hammerjacks' crowds are notorious for literally boo-ing acts off of the stage. The crowd was so supportive of all of the opening acts that I started wondered if some crew had bought everyone in the spot drinks. I was up in the VIP area (which is not the best seat in the house IMO) when the show started, but eventually had to make my way down to really get a good look at what was going on. Big Patch got the ball rolling. Even if you could care less about what he was saying, his beats were most def gonna capture your attention. But in Patch's case...lack of hot lines is not one of his problems. I've seen him rock with a band so I can attest to his ability to MC. He has apparently inked a new situation with Unruly - that is really good news. I wish you much success with that endeavour and I hope you sell a mil. Finally got the chance to meet Cooli Hi. We'd talked a lil bit on Myspace, but this was our first time actually meeting. This brother has been doing his thing for a min in Baltimore (most notably with Sisqo - don't even front - actin' like Sisqo is not the MAN!). I tell ya, his pictures make him look much older (to me). I didn't even know he was on the card. I was very happy to get the chance to see him do his thing. He definitely has a distinct flair for making those club bangers. He has this song with Ms. Kitty that is definitley aiiight! Top of the World did their thang as usual! They were on some real Hollyhood shit! LOL! As I previously mentioned, there was a runway and you know they made use of it. LOL! Amadaye, Finny, Swann and Jay Boogie (who is not a rapper!! LOL!) always bring a lot of energy to performances. Damn near the whole right side of the stage was there reppin for T.O.W. Boogie, I loved the hot pink on black T's......where is mine? I'll take a large. I've seen these guys perform numerous times before so I had no doubt that they would do well, but I often wonder if I'm just biased (I genuinely like them all as men). After seeing the satisfied looks on the people's faces...I can now say without a shadow of a doubt that these guys have something special. AND...where the hell was Kariz???? hunh??? LOL! Yall know that is my wild out partner (LOL!- Was gonna say "cut buddy"...like in "we cut up together", but Trilville dun messed that slang up too. Damn you Southern Rappers!! ...................j/k)
    *
Didn't see to many familiar faces from the scene....
BUMPED (literally) in to Jay Hunnie!!! She was in their gettin her "perculator" on. FYI (non-baltimoreans): The perculator in this case is a dance.
Torcha from STREETZ was in the spot as well.
Troy Johnson from the Big Phat Morning Show was holding it down as the host. He and I had the opportunity to talk. He was such a nice guy.
VS Magazine - I don't remember his name (sorry), but he was a real sweetheart as well.
    *
Had fun ova the weekend...what you do?
    *
    edit:
Oh......just realized I never mentioned Juvy
He was aiight!, but I wasn't impressed at all. He really has no charm what so ever. He is just a rapper! Don't get me wrong....his first CD was my jawnt!!!, but this live show left a lot to be desired. No cameras were allowed. The sound system sucked all night. You couldn't even feel the beat when back that thang up came on! That blew me! I'd love to see him again before I just write him off.

"Oh God I think my water just broke"

" 2 morrow is my due date. All this grinding, love making is finally about to pay off. I can't hold it no more this baby is coming out. Saturday March 4th join me in the delivery room at The Belvedere Lounge (lower Level) as I give birth to the 1st All Female Hip Hop Revue…Even A Man Can Do This” with performances from B-Fly, Golden Seal, Shell Be Raw, Kitty and The Mighty Paradocs. Doors open at 9:00 show start at 10:00pm $10 before 10 more after get there early this is going to be a sold out show.

Oh God I think my water just broke"

Nahhhhhhhhhhh...LOL! Not YET!!! I knoooooow you didn't think I was talking about me. No muffin was hiding in my oven, but my fellow promoter/publicist/aspiring media mogul, Tasha (white top - above) gave birth to a biggum (yall remember the doctor on LIFE..LOL!) last night. The "Even A Man Can Do This" All Female Revue (Part I) was a huge success on numerous levels. Not only was it the first show to ever bring most of Baltimore's prominant female performers (primarily hip hop) together on one card, but it was also a "coming out" party of sorts for Tasha. If I am not mistaken, this was her first solo project. The above was an excerpt from her email blast/birth announcement. I know how stressful and tiring the process (event planning and promoting) can be and she appeared to handle every thing marvelously - a shining example of "grace under pressure". I send up a prayer of restoration for you! I know you need it! mwah!
    *
The turn out was excellent!!! Chopped it up with Midas (March Style Warz performer- a real charmer!), Bernie Dooser (who by the way mentioned that the new Tim Trees album is near completion) and think I spotted Dukey Man (Producer aka Mr. "Whoa Now" - I know that is not his only claim to fame, but B. Rich's new album dropped recently). Not 100% sure - I really wasn't in my usual "networky" kind of mood. I normally would have been trying to get his # or e-mail addy- sumptin. I'd had a long day (the night before I drank like 3 "jolly ranchers" at the Juvy concert ....I'll tell you about dat lata). There were so many of the usual suspects in the buiding that I am going to refrain from naming any one specifically out of fear that I may leave someone out. You know I gots love for all yall !!
    *
    The line up included:
Jeneba Suma (pictured with OOH of BrownFISH - HOST )
Mighty Paradox (Philly was in the building MCs + band)
Tha Plague (the ladies stepped up when Ms Kitty unexpectedly cancelled)
    Shellbe Raw
    B. Fly *
    Golden Seal * *
    *
Last night was a treat....B. Fly kilt it!! She was already impeccable her white and black stripe suit (with a fiery red top).....but naaah....come SHOWTIME the "pistol packing mama" donned a get up that matched her bravado - BLAZIN!!! (B, you have GOT to replicate one of Reberta Flacks album covers. You have that retro blaxploitation thang going on!) ........& the shorter member of Golden Seal has one hell of a voice . Quite a few times I had to do a double take. She knows how to get a crowd pumped. These 2 ladies (Ja Alah-Ai a.k.a. Jahli & ReflectSon a.k.a. Shountee) have real chemistry together. It looked like they had fun rockin with each other...which made me want to rock out with them. They could teach their contemporaries (particularly the males) a thing or two about a stage show. Their energy made for a very entertaining set. They comfortably maneuvered around each other on stage - looking very polished. Plus, DJ Boo Man is continually lacing these ladies with THAT heat. I can't wait for their album to drop!!! Thanks for the LOVE on my MYSPACE page also!!!! Be sure to hit GS up about the DVD of the Brown Sugar event that was held at the Edens Lounge in January.

Only thing I didn't like about last night (& I won't put anyone on blast)...is that it was not understood (instinctually) that the night was about the women. Do men have a hard time....just watching the ladies do their thang? Some of the men attempted to gain the spotlight (at various times) when really they should have just fallen back (IMO). I would of had to slap one of them....LOL!...I guess it's a love thing between performers because no one squawked about the intrusion. Other than that the line up was hot, the venue is hot (LITERALLY...LOL!), and the vibe was very positive and encouraging for Baltimore Hip Hop. I look forward to more examples of the ladies reppin lovely.

    I'll Holla @ yall lata!
