    T.I. KING

522,000 people bought T.I.'s new CD, KING, during the first week!

That is Amazing! Say what you want to say....The SOUTH sells records.

What is it that makes that many people go out and buy the same product? I hope I can get people that pumped about anything I am pushing. That is what I'm talkin bout!

In my case, I never go out and buy something immediately unless I am already a fan. I bought both Get Rich or Die Tryin and The Black Album many many many months after they both dropped. I'm embarassed to admit it, but I like to know what others think. I try to get a wide variety of perspectives then I go cop it if a few key people tell me its worth the money. Case and point: Jeezy's album by many accounts sucks, but it's appeal is undeniable.
    *
I always liked T.I., but never purchased any of his albums. Big Ups to R-Sin (an up and coming Baltimore artist)!!!! He gave me T.I.'s new CD as a gift today - That was so sweet.
    *
I am soooooooooooo thankful!!! I love it!!!
    *
Below are the first couple of songs that really jumped out at me after listening to it over the weekend. I am sure as time goes on my appreciation for the CD will increase. Its about damn time that a CD came out where I was actually satisfied.
    *
    Tracklisting:
Is it me or does the intro background beat sound like a Baltimore Club song is going to come on? LOL! man.....people betta start hollaring at people like Samir and Boo Man RIGHT NOW! In a min....these brothas are gonna be in serious demand. I'm glad I'm cool with both of them. he he!

1.King Back - (with T.I.) produced by none other than Just Blaze....Shit's tight! Its amazing how the same man can work with Jay or Freeway and give you one sound...then flip it an go down south and make it happen like this with T.I. wow! I am so impressed on so many levels. I hang out with a lot of producers, but very few have the range dude possesses.
    2.Front Back - (with T.I./UGK) - 5.5
3.What You Know - (with T.I.) OMG! Every time this song comes on in the club, in the car...wherever I am...I want to dance. This is a really good song. I like his words and I love the beat. T.I. really shined on this track.
4.I'm Talkin' To You - (with T.I.) Just Blaze was really showing off on this one....Just let it ride!!
5.Live In The Sky - (with T.I./Jamie Foxx) This is Jamie's year !!! Song's FIYAH!!! & its so very heartwarming to see someone express deeper feelings in their music.
6.Ride Wit Me - (with T.I.) I like this song as I listen to it more.
    7. Breakup, The - (with T.I.) Mike Epps is hillarious on this one!!!!
    8. Why You Wanna - (with T.I.) Laid-back flip of the Basement Boys / Crystal Waters Classic!!! One of the motivating factors for adding this CD to my collection. I wish an artist from Baltimore would have done this first. I bet that sample was expensive...LOL!
9.Get It - (with T.I.) The chemistry between TIP and Swiss Beats first became evident to me on "Bring um out"....but for those of you that need more....listen to this jawnt!!! I love it!
    10.Top Back - (with T.I.)
11.I'm Straight - (with T.I./Young Dro/Young Jeezy) I thought this one was aiiight. I wish Jezzy would have showed some more dexterity. He really does talk about the same stuff all the time....LOL! I love Jezzy, but daaaaaaaaaaaam!
    12. Undertaker - (with T.I./Young Buck/Young Dro) Not sure!
    13.Stand Up Guy - (with T.I.)
    14.You Know Who - (with T.I.)
    15.Good Life - (with T.I./Pharrell/Common) HOTNESS!
    16.Hello - (with T.I./Governor) I love this song!
    17.Told You So - (with T.I.)
18.Bankhead - (with PSC/Young Dro) I hear the potential in T.I.'s PSC group members. I look forward to hearing more from them.

Guess what yall......I got my camera back! Yipppppee! I'll be back to flickin it up in a min....I need to get me some batteries!!!

Style Warz - The Melodrama (Coming to a hood near you)
This blog entry is truly going to come as a shock to many of you. Many of you wish that I would comment further than I plan to about the MESS that is occuring between the Style Warz co-organizers, but you'll have to wait. This is gonna make for a great story!!! Drama, Lies, Deceit, Tapes, Sex, Money, Police...etc....DAMN! What more do you need?
    *
From the bottom of my heart:
    • I love Baltimore and it's talented artists.........
    • I feel so sad that I am even involved this fiasco in any way.........
    • I feel bad that folk have been included in what should have been a small loop....
    • I hate that my personal business is in the streets.........
    • I hate that I can't wish a peaceful resolution into existence........
    • I wish I ....coulda ....shoulda....woulda.....
I've decided that this whole situtaion is not going to be what causes me to develop an ulcer. Life is waaaay to short to let momentary glitches mess up the rest of my operations underway. Because I believe that right is right and wrong is just wrong....I am going to let this play out exactly as some people predicted it would. I am running far far away from this situation, my former business associate and his spouse. I honestly have no more energy for a dirty fight.
    *
Sooooooooooooooooo.....that being said....Style Warz will never be as it was again. You have heard this from me. My partner has informed me that....he is moving on with out me........... & b/c of recent events.....I NOW agree that reconcilliation is not possible. It's a sad day for me. In many ways it feels like a bitter divorce and Im the one on the short end of the stick. I say that, not so you will look at me as a victim, but more so that you can understand how much of myself I put into everything I do.
    *
I would never sit here and talk bad about something I created....I can't even attack it with relish b/c the reality is that destroying it or saying Style Warz is not the sh*t would be like saying my own child is ugly or was unwanted. I am trying to do right by Baltmore. I wished to work it out...I swear I did. I am NOT about this. That is the only thing I can keep telling myself during this uncertain time.
    *
My advice to everyone considering building something with someone else.....ALWAYS GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING. That is the best piece of advice that was EVER offered to me. Too bad I was so naive as to not understand the significance of it.
    *
    On a lighter note:
So many rumors are swirling about this NEW hip hop event that I am going to give in Baltimore.....LOL! Please someone tell me some more about it. People talk so much its re-di-cu-lous. The last point I want to make is....if you don't hear it from me...say it isn't so. Right about now...I am stunned.....preoccupied .....amazed......befuddled....dumbfounded.....
    *
I'll be back people.....give me a sec to get my mind right

The Team Fiddy Jumpoff - Recap
Last night's tribute to Backland turned out very nice. The B'more Blocks representer was most definitely in the building. It was so good to see that so many people came out to show him love.
    *
Part of the evenings show was the "beat brigade". Baltimore producer heavyweights Ms. Tris Beats, Samir, Ray Lugar and Kariz were all allowed the opportunity to showcase their new fiyah. A few MCs even spit freestyles ova the tracks. This is a great idea and I hope it continues. The producers deserve some love too...I think that events should find more ways to incorporate everyone into the mix. I also found out the Samir made the D.O.G. f/ Jim Jones track "I Get Doe"....That was very cool.
    *
I was right next to the stage when Ms. Tris was showcasing and I was observing how she delivered her own melodies over her tracks. She was rockin'. LOL! I guess Ms. Tris is one of the those producers that knows what will sound good over her music or perhaps she has not revealed all her cards yet. mmmmmh?
    *
    Backland Tribute:
Low Key God and Ray Lugar delivered the J.R. Lanier Award, named in honor of his mother, a prominent historian, for his contributions to Hip Hop History. Low Key delivered a fitting speech that highlighted among other things the amount of pride the city felt while he was shutting down all competition during his run on 106 & Park's Freestyle Friday. He spit a 16 that took me back.....WE MISS YOU BIG GUY!!!! Oh yeah! Per Backland, "B'more Blocks" (his first release since the accident) will be out NEXT WEEK!!!!
    *
Kartel were most def in the building! The guys tour it down. I was so glad to see the "Free Tone" campaign was successful. It was sooooo good to see him. He looked like he gained some weight, but that's aiiiight. I guess it was all the good eatin he did while he was on vacation he he!. I can't wait for his new CD to come out. He ALWAYS has a lot on his mind. Karlito and Sha got it LIVE in there. I love the facial expression that Shakeen makes when he raps....it is a site to see. My guys, the 100 Boys killed it. I love these lil young guys. I found out that the main guy Rico is locked up right now. That kinda messed me up....I like him a lot. Free RICO!!!! why not, everyone else does it. LOL! The Black Family performed....what up J Nina. I was glad to see Nina out. This was my first time seeing him perform and I was thoroughly impressed. I look forward to hearing more of you and the BF's music.
    *
Big Ups to Ms. Tris, Keebe, Kelly, Karen, Kariz, Tim (M.O.L.), Little ClayWay....good seeing yall!

    Murs Show - Review
just typed this wonderful review & lost it.....damn you blogger ...j/k I love this service, but get it right BLOGGER...good thoughts only come every so often...........

    Y
    Here we go again:

Attended the MURS concert at the Ottobar this past Wednesday. I thought I was making good time, but by the time that we reached the venue (little before) 11:00 PM....MURS was on deck. Openers included Educated Consumers, Shodekah (pronounced ShO-de-KAY aka the human beat box machine)........& a surprise addition...Tislam! Yes, Tis. LOL! I arrive @ the spot and he was on stage doing his thing. He later told me that the night was huge for him....DJ Mills who is close with Madlib (producer) got a exclusive J-Dilla track that will be on The Shining and he got to rock on it first before anyone ever. Pharoahe Monch will be rocking on the track eventually but he was so pumped that he got to do it first. It was like watching a kid in a candy store. I didn't know how significant the beat was at the time...LOL!, but the people loved it. Dilla's legacy will live on.
    *
MURS is such a rock star. He had the old fashion mic on stage rockin out like he was the Black Elvis...LOL!....he was droppin the mic and pulling it back up....swinging the mic "around the world" style only to bring it back down and pick his raps back up - on beat...That was slick! He lip synced some Cold Play....Did an energetic running man..... Amazed us with some huge "skateboard kicks"....Man, MURS is an animal. A good animal tho! I was slow to warm up to him (for selfish reasons I will explain later he he!), but 3 songs in....I was totally into him like a first date. I am going to buy his new album "Murray's Revenge" (produced exclusively by 9th Wonder) as soon as I get some extra money.
    *
I noted that he has a very loyal and loving following. The crowd was small, but every head in the house was glued to the stage and pumping their fist in appreciation of the good vibrations he was spreading. Some of his songs were a little "different" than what I've become accustomed to...must be that Cali flava, but...."Dark Skinned White Girl" had me rollin. I had to figure out what the hell he was saying. What is a dark skinned white girl? A white girl with a tan? LOL! I need to figure out what album it was on or search for the lyrics online. Not sure if he was playin or not, but told us all that if we see or talk to Jean Grae....."Tell her to give me some p*ssy"...LOL! What do I look like recruiting for him...He is a mess. He also performed this song verse about how he doesn't even get love from his own people. I felt him...damn! I have been to far to many Hip Hop shows where our lack of support for each other is soooo blatantly obvious. Guru was the like the biggest wake up call that things are a changin for me. After the show...I went up to him & let him know that I came out to support him. I told him that its not that black ppl don't support him, its that IMO we are very commercial & if its not mainstream...we are simply uninformed. I think that if more black people knew about MURS they would give dude a chance. He was kicking that real + you could really tell he is from there. There is no way you can grow up in the Cali hood and not know about violence and bangin. On another note....He was so gracious and nice to me. He reminded me of Planet Asia when I met him, but atleast Murs acted like he likes black girls too...LOL! K-Con got a photo....IF its cute...I'll post it....LOL!
    *
Im going keep it real...........I went to the show b/c I thought he was cute...LOL! What a reason, hunh!!! LOL! I must admit....he sadly did not live up to the fantasy. Look at the Jimi Hendricks inspired shot above....WOAH! I love it! Nooooooo No No.....don't get me wrong. He was cute enough, but he was short....like 3 inches shorter than me. LOL! Damn! Check out his site and listen to some of his music.
    *
Big Ups to Karen aka Ms. Red Wine, Timmy Grins (Break Down TV - yall is doing it), Jethro, K- Con, Tis, DJ Mills, Lyrical Leviathan, Steez, Kash (Live and Direct) and all the other fine folk I ran into throughout the night!

Writer, QB Wells , has a new book out. The former Baltimore City Schools teacher is one to keep your eyes on.

Never thought of the day I'd hear of heeb-bop. A new genre for those "who feel excluded by the Jewish mainstream"....LOL!

    HFStival 2006
    Rap, reggae to rock HFStival
Baltimore Business Journal - 3:17 PM EDT Monday
    by Julekha Dash
    Staff

Outspoken hip-hop artist Kanye West will perform at this year's HFStival, an annual concert in the Baltimore/Washington area that features a slew of national and local acts, largely alternative rock.

This year, the concert takes place May 27 and May 28 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia.

West, whose "Late Registration" was among 2005's best-selling albums, will sing on the first day of the festival. He'll share the spotlight with Hasidic reggae singer Matisyahu. Alternative rock bands the Counting Crows and the Strokes are some of the headliners on the second day of the HFStival.

The future of the HFStival was uncertain early last year when Infinity Broadcasting Corp. jettisoned WHFS from its home at 99.1 FM, and replaced the frequency with a Spanish-language station. Protests from die-hard fans prompted Infinity Broadcasting to partner with America Online to launch WHFS.com. And a Baltimore FM radio station 105.7 features WHFS music during evenings and weekends.
    *
The HFStival has routinely lured more than 50,000 attendees each year. Last year, the HFStival was held at the M&T Bank Stadium and featured Coldplay, the Foo Fighters and Billy Idol.
    *
The lineup for the 2006 HFStival includes:
    *
    May 27:
    Matisyahu
    Kanye West
    Cypress Hill
    *
( Click on the flyer for more Third Kind info.)
    *
Third Kind (f/ Ogun) opened last year's show. That was huge. I hope that a local hip hop act is given the op this year as well. (I wish I had a lightbulb icon..he he!) They could have their "rap" and "reggae" covered if they booked Brown F.I.S.H. HOLLAAAAAAA! I may have to make it out to the festival this year (despite my fear of huge crowds and satanic rock music..LOL!)....KANYEZEE will be in the buildin!!! OMG! That is the biz. I caught Cyprus Hill on the Beef III DVD not to long ago. Its good to know they are still at it......There is life after beef with Ice Cube.

    Life Lesson #40306
    The Snake:

A young girl was trudging along a mountain path, trying to reach her Grandmother's house. It was bitter cold and the wind cut like a knife. When she was within sight of her destination she heard a rustle at her feet.

Looking down, she saw a snake. Before she could move the snake said:

"I am about to die. It is too cold up here and I am freezing. There is no food in these mountains, and I am starving. Please put me under your coat and take me with you."

"No," replied the girl. "I know your kind. If I pick you up you will bite me, and your bite is poisonous."

"No, no," said the snake. "If you help me you will be my best friend. I will treat you differently."

The little girl sat down on a rock and studied the snake. She had to admit that it was the most beautifully-colored snake she had ever seen. And it was so in need of her help.

Suddenly she said, "I believe you. I will save you. All living things deserve to be treated with kindness." So she reached down and picked up her new friend, gently placed him under her coat, and continued down the path to Grandmother's house.

She had taken only a few steps when she felt a sharp pain in her side. The snake had bitten her! "How could you do this?" she cried. "You promised and I trusted you!"

"You knew what I was when you picked me up," hissed the snake as he slithered away.

STAY AWAY FROM SNAKES... Literally and Figuratively!!!!
