Baltimore Hip Hop is going PRIME TIME!!!!!

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I want to give a special thanks to Music Monthly, Baltimore City Paper and WYPR for their consideration and eye for detail. In a city with so much going on, they've deemed what's going on in the Hip Hop community as relevant. That is so very essential! From the bottom of my heart (& I am sure numerous others)...Thank you so very much for the respect shown. In recognizing the rebirth in its infancy...NO ONE should have any problem giving yall interviews, prizes, tickets, appearences etc....when they BLOW UP!!!! Its only fair!

The picture above accompanied the feedback piece the City Paper ran on SUPER STYLE WARZ late last month. Jason Torres did an exceptional job of capturing the magnitude of the event. People from all walks of life converged on the 5 Seasons and left there feeling as if there is HOPE for the Baltimore's Hip Hop Scene. Not only that, but people in Bmore aren't used to any event being around long enough to celebrate 1 year...LOL! real talk!

Big Ups to RaH RaH!! The picture you took is awesome. This picture says everything ....Karlito looking like, "Yeah nuu I hear you spittin that garbage" and D Mic's scowl just says, "Ima eat you alive...make you wish you would have stayed home tonight". LOL! Only YOU! People, this guy does some exceptional work. Get at him. Remember: With photos (& prolly most other marketing products)..... you get exactly what you pay for

This post is especially monumental because I am also announcing the unveiling of the documentary WYPR's The Signal (Big Ups to Aaron Henkin who personally delivered the news) put together on the Super Style Warz. It will air TOMORROW (3.24.06) on 88.1 FM (in Baltimore) @ 12 NOON and then again at 7:00 PM. This is not something you want to miss. But, if you do...they will add a link to their website (@ a later time) where you can listen to the interview. All of Baltimore's finest will be shining. They actually came to the Super Style Warz and recorded audio from the sound board...so the MC's voices will be clear. You'll also get to hear my big mouth too...LOL! P-Funk and I, in addition to several of the competitors were invited to the station for our own recorded sessions where we recounted our experiences and feelings from that night. I talked about that a week or so ago. I've never seen or heard anything like this before....I am so excited. Please tune in and tell everyone you know to tune in...please spread the word. Baltimore's Hip Hop is going prime time tomorrow.....are you ready?

    The Kartel's Melodic Confessions
Had a great time this past Tuesday at Melodic Confessions held @ Edens Lounge in Baltimore, MD. Kariz was my very fun date for the evening. My bad, Kariz for leaving you at the mercy of all the other women in the spot all night. LOL! We walked in together and I didn’t really see him again until almost the end….Yall know Ima mingler! Despite my rudeness....he made me feel so good – as usual….he was bigging me up all night to people. LMBAO! People were coming up to me like, “Hi. Im so and so. What do you do?” I always tell people word of mouth or someone personally vouching for you is the best form of promotion. I really need to put him and Shakeen on my payroll…....as soon as I get one. he he

Speaking of Sha…..the Kartel were most definitely in the building. I was invited to come down and watch them rip it with the live band. The BAND was awesome….I HAD TO ADD DAT! Magic (Kartel Head Honcho) was livid with the guys because he felt their performance was sub par (Magic is such a PER-fectionist), but the looks on Shakeen and Karlito’s faces made it hard to stay mad at them for long….LOL! They had a ball!!! I’m sitting there in the middle ....them smiling…..magic frowning…..Im not sure if I should smile or frown….it was quite a funny moment. That is the kind of stuff I wish I had on a DVD!!! The moment was real..couldn't stage that one! Under normal circumstances the kartel rips it...so Ima chalk their less than stellar performance up to inexperience. This was their first time with live instrumentation & they winged it...LOL! Please do not let my recollection discourage you.....The Kartel has a new mixtape in the streets & Karlito's solo demonstration is coming soon….whenever you see one of them…holla & tell them I sent cha. They most def make good music & let's face it...rockin with a band ain't for everyone....don't beat your self up! Thank God for "Next time".....

Also, got the opportunity to talk to Colby (I’ma call you!!!), the award-winning photographer, about a photo shoot for moi. I know he could work magic with me! He took some very cool pics of a past Style Warz and did some really funky things with the lighting….I love creative photographers. He is a student at the Ohio University studying photography…I wish you much success and look forward to working with you on future projects. I know TIME mag has been calling, but please keep MY prices subsidized! Ima bawla on a budget!

Other memorable performances included those of Che Ray and Jeneba Suma (funny memory: she was up in the joint selling tix for Brown Sugar II during her set....now that is multi-tasking). Baltimore has so many talented performers here…wow! These 2 alone give me hope! I just hope they remember me and show love when they finally blow…cause its gonna happen – SOON if I have anything to say about it. Kariz was feeling all nostalgic…..he mentioned that the energy has NEVER felt this right! I have to agree…even if not for the same reasons he stated…LOL!
    *
Oh and Kariz....my first question for Oprah would be:

What does it feel like to sleep on $1000 sheets? he he

"I wanna see what dat feel like" ......... in my best Day Day voice (Mike Epps - Friday After Next).

I have a real sheet fetish! its no joke! ONLY 400 thread count or better for me!

Thanks to everyone that sends me love via e-mail…LOL! regarding my blog! I am glad that I amuse so many of you. I don't think this is what they meant when they called it "Ready to Die"
This is a cautinary tale for all those that like to jack other people's beats with the notion that you can always deal with the consequences later. I am sooooo very glad that I re-purchased this CD a few years ago.....Ima go burn me 4 copies and put them away for safe keeping. I hope they can make this better. I have alot of respect for all parties involved. Damn Puff!

The cover of the 1994 Notorious B.I.G. album "Ready to Die."

    According to CNN.com
    B.I.G. album pulled from market
Song sample of Ohio Players song done without permission

    Monday, March 20, 2006; Posted: 9:30 a.m. EST (14:30 GMT)

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- A judge halted sales of Notorious B.I.G.'s breakthrough 1994 album "Ready to Die" after a jury decided the title song used part of an Ohio Players tune without permission.

The jury Friday awarded $4.2 million in punitive and direct damages to the two music companies that own rights to Ohio Players recordings.

The sales ban imposed by U.S. District Judge Todd Campbell affects the album and the title song in any form, including Internet downloads and radio play.

It was unclear when or how the ban would take effect. By Saturday evening, a search of BestBuy.com and Amazon.com showed "Ready to Die" was still available for purchase online.

The jury decided that Bad Boy Entertainment and executive producer Sean "Diddy" Combs illegally used a part of the Ohio Players' 1992 song "Singing In The Morning."

Bridgeport Music and Westbound Records, which owned the song rights, have filed hundreds of lawsuits over "sampling," the practice of lifting parts of old music for new recordings. Most were settled out of court.

The companies get most of their income from song royalties by their artists, which include funk legend George Clinton, the Funkadelics and the Ohio Players.

"We've just been battling this for such a long time," Armen Boladian, owner of Westbound and Bridgeport said. "So many have been settled because companies didn't want anything to do with it, and we knew we were right."

The defendants, Bad Boy Entertainment, Bad Boy LLC, Justin Combs Publishing and Universal Records, plan to appeal. "We think (the verdict) is without merit," defense lawyer Jay Bowen said.

The estate of Notorious B.I.G. was originally sued but was dropped later as a defendant. The artist, born Christopher Wallace, was 24 in 1997 when he was killed in a shooting that remains unsolved.

The rotund New York rapper, also known as Biggie Smalls, was one of the most influential hip-hop artists of the 1990s. His albums "Ready To Die" and the posthumously released "Life After Death" together sold nearly 8 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

    Ain't NATHAN dumb bout dat!
Why o Why would anyone feel that southerners are stupid I HAVE NO IDEA!!! Most of the greatest inventions we take for grated are the result of Southern inginuity. Study you history!!! Don't sleep on em...they've been making a way out of nothing for a long time.

Willie Lynch's prophecy is coming true in the rap game as well..is there any escaping it...........that Willie was a smart man!

This is my new favorite song!!! Actually take the time to read the words.....then listen to the song. I FEEL THEIR LOVE FOR THEIR HOME STATE - Civic pride is the first step in "blowing up a region". If you don't think its poppin' -- who else will? And...........I know, by most estimations Luda is a southern anomaly in that he can rap your favorite rapper under a table, but check out the last verse....... I love how this dude delivers his lines! Plus, I like his voice. I love MCs that have a melodic flow. They need T.I. on the remix - is he even from GA? I don't even care...LOL! I just adoooooooooore T.I. ".........wE ON tHe gRIND ...ALL THE tIME!"

    Boughetto File - Case #32006
I sure hope they took him out of context...otherwise,

A new MTV.com interview reveals that 50 Cent has apparently joined the Ghostface "southern bash wagon". He goes into detail about why he feels that "simple-minded Southerns are damaging hip hop":

"A lot of the music that comes out of the South is kind of simplified and I think it's kinda 'cause they just wanna have a good time," he explained. "They don't wanna think about what [they] just said. ... They really didn't make sense, but they made sense in a way and they just wanna hear something while they're actually partying and it works for them. But when they don't take the time to make it the highest quality possible, it hurts the actual hip-hop [genre]. People wanna make music they can get away with as opposed to the best possible music they can make....."

    This dude is really comical.

"Simple minded" - Now ain't dat the pot callin the kettle black!

"Sh Sh Shake dat ass gurl!"
Baltimore is an interesting place to be..........we are equal distance from New York and ATL. Got to love dat!
    *
I grew up on Northern style Hip Hop, but definitely have a lot of love for my southern brethren and sistren.
    *
My mother's family migrated from Georgia. Janie Mae (GM) & Fountain Turner Sr. (GF)
    *
mmhhhhhhhhhh...........Young Jeezy is from Macon (I think I heard that) & most of my kin folk reside there - I wonder if his mama is my great auntie?
    *
My father's people came up here from North Carolina. Man o Man...don't get me started on their names....LOL!
    *
As you prolly guessed.................All my people talk with a twang!
    *
    *
To be entirely honest, I really just discovered southern rap a few years ago despite many Baltimoreans being hip to it since my youth. In fact, I grew up with a male friend that loved Master P, 8 Ball and MJG and many others back in the day. He swore southern rappers were the only ones saying anything...LOL! This was the mid 90's (Hip Hop's Golden era) and he felt that they told stories he could relate to - immediately.
    *
Maybe I'm biased..........I don't see southern rap as the bain of Hip Hop because in many ways I relate to their sensibilites. I like to have fun. I am starting to relate to 50 less everyday & I really like most of his music. I feel that southern slang and the witty analogies they use are refreshing. I love the way that southern music makes me feel when its played real loud. It makes me want to dance....helps me to escape (my only hope from much of today's music).
    *
How many ways can you say "son, dun, one, dope, poppin, hot, bananas, shorty, .......etc"?
    *
I love how they take chances with sounds and aren't afraid to make music that they like despite their haters! In my opinion they've expanded my vocab tremendously! LOL! I won't use it at work, but hip hop never was for dat! How is it that we've gone from Hip Hop being the voice of a people..to sayin that the southern youth's voice is not articulate enough? The North has always viewed southerners as "slow"...nothing is new.
    *
Northern rappers need to grow up & as I said it in my Wu Tang show review "Oh How Soon We Forget" , "Focus on making good northern rap"
    *
When did NY get so bougie? or perhaps they've always been and just don't know how to deal with competition?
    *
I am going to fully explore this issue at a later time. I feel a good essay coming on!

why you say Jay Z is the sexiest.........?
Did you think "MY boo" was a real man too!

....if he were a man..... "HE" would be the perfect man for me

    Physical stature
    Sex appeal
    Cocky bravado
    Wisdom beyong his years
    Street smart
Ability to put someone in their place with words
    Respect of his peers......

Ever wondered why some people think Jay Z is the SEXIEST man in the world?

    I get it!
