Are ringtones part of YOUR marketing plan?
I was on one of my fact finding missions and discovered that Billboard keeps track of National Ringtones sales. Very few, if any, Baltimore artists have explored this very effective and potentially lucrative marketing tool.
    *
Instead of thinking it's sooooo slick that your favorite artist or song is on the list.....try to find out what you have to do to get your name or song listed. Its amazing what you find out when you start with the end in mind.

    Killa Season
".........For a couple of months after college, I was a furniture salesman at a ghetto-ass East Baltimore discount furniture store, the sort of place that advertises $5 mattresses and accepts Independence Cards and does brisk business on the first of the month. One of the items we offered was the coffee table in Hell Rell's apartment, which I thought was pretty funny..........."
    *
Never knew Cam lived here before*.....WOW! Check out the rest of the Village Voice article. I am becoming more convinced that his "Jay tizzy fit" was a publicity stunt. Killa Season is on!

Is this issue being blown out of proportion to you or is it just me? They are inadvertantly adding the phrase to America's collective vocabulary by continually talking about it. I found like 6 articles on this topic this morning alone. USA Today examines whether the black community is divided over STOP SNITCHIN? Rapper Chuck D of Public Enemy seems to think so..........
"...The term 'snitch' was best applied to those that ratted revolutionaries like Huey P. Newton, Bobby Seale, Che Guevara..........." (read on) I think the article was well written and thought provoking.

Be sure you check me out on MYSPACE @ www.myspace.com/clove
Very cool Cam'ron portrait by Grant Siedlecki

    * & he NEVER did...LOL! I misread the article. Thanks, Al. Reading IS fundamental.
Buuuuuuuut..........it still don't change the fact that I'm glad I made all of you look! I know.... I am such a mz. smarty pants! PEACE

New book about Baltimore Hip Hop
Cash Rules is a tale about three best friends from Baltimore City who have big plans to make it in the rap world. Takeisha, Latrell, and Danita are three around the way girls who spend their teenage years in the streets of Baltimore City chasing the fast life that’s filled with hustlas, money, expensive cars, and pure uncut drama. They see becoming the next superstar rap group as their way to make it outta the hood. As a result, they sharpen up their lyrical skills and form a gangsta rap group called The KS (Killin’em Softly) Crew. They derive the name of the group from their sexy cover girl looks and hard core rhyme style. After hooking up with Scar, another up and coming Baltimore rapper, big time drug dealer, and Takeisha’s boyfriend, they are given an opportunity to become major stars in the music industry. However, after Scar and Takeisha break up and he winds up in jail on a trumped up charge, the girls are left to fend for themselves. They hook up with a group of producers from New York City, named The Smith Brothers, and land a record deal with Cash Rules Records. The book chronicles their rise to the top of the rap world and the struggles they endure along the path of fame and fortune. It details the pitfalls that lie along the road and shows how the trappings of success threaten to tear the very fiber of their lifelong friendship with each other apart as demons from their past come back to haunt them.

    Life is chess, not checkers!!!!
Yesterday, I visited the F.I.S.H.bowl and Jahiti directed me towards a passage in the book "48 Laws of Power". I have to mention, Jah is an Aquarian (like me) so when the brotha indicated that he wanted me to read something....I knew it would be SUPER profound. That's how we gets down! I can't tell you the law he pointed out b/c by revealing the law .....I'd be giving you some of my power &............. we hella sure can't have that...LOL! Hint: Its not one of the ones listed below. he he! Thanks Jah....you've helped me in more ways than one.

I'd been hearing about this book forever....so now Im puttin you down with it too. Cop it ASAP. Sometimes inspiration comes from the least expected places. A friend shared this jewel with me & now its only right that I do so for you............

Here is a lil excerpt to wet your whistle:

    The 48 Laws of Power
by Robert Greene and Joost Elffers

    Law 1
    Never Outshine the Master
Always make those above you feel comfortably superior. In your desire to please or impress them, do not go too far in displaying your talents or you might accomplish the opposite – inspire fear and insecurity. Make your masters appear more brilliant than they are and you will attain the heights of power.
    Law 2
Never put too Much Trust in Friends, Learn how to use Enemies
Be wary of friends-they will betray you more quickly, for they are easily aroused to envy. They also become spoiled and tyrannical. But hire a former enemy and he will be more loyal than a friend, because he has more to prove. In fact, you have more to fear from friends than from enemies. If you have no enemies, find a way to make them.
    Law 3
    Conceal your Intentions
Keep people off-balance and in the dark by never revealing the purpose behind your actions. If they have no clue what you are up to, they cannot prepare a defense. Guide them far enough down the wrong path, envelope them in enough smoke, and by the time they realize your intentions, it will be too late.
    Law 4
    Always Say Less than Necessary
When you are trying to impress people with words, the more you say, the more common you appear, and the less in control. Even if you are saying something banal, it will seem original if you make it vague, open-ended, and sphinxlike. Powerful people impress and intimidate by saying less. The more you say, the more likely you are to say something foolish.
    Law 5
So Much Depends on Reputation – Guard it with your Life
Reputation is the cornerstone of power. Through reputation alone you can intimidate and win; once you slip, however, you are vulnerable, and will be attacked on all sides. Make your reputation unassailable. Always be alert to potential attacks and thwart them before they happen. Meanwhile, learn to destroy your enemies by opening holes in their own reputations. Then stand aside and let public opinion hang them.
